MJF Ln. Dr. V. M. Sankaran born as the son of famous doctor, Dr. V. Maharajan and
Mrs. Kanthi saraswathy at Thirunelveli. Had schooling in St. Xavier’s – Palayankottai,
Medical in Madras Medical College – Chennai and Eye Specialty in Christian Medical
College – Vellore. Graduated in 1964 and joined Kannan Devan Hills Estate – Munnar
in 1965 and came to Kanchipuram in 1972 as Eye Specialist in Government Head Quarters
Hospital – Kanchipuram. Left the Government job in 1976 and started own Sankar Eye
Hospital the first private full fledged eye hospital in Chengalpet District with
high repute. Started Sankar Charitable Trust in 1980 to do free eye camp on 3rd
Saturday of every month and to supply free glasses also apart from medications.
Started Sankar Eye Bank in the year 1993 and the bank is harvesting nearly 200 eyes
every year. Joined Lionism in 1975 actively involved in all medical activities of
the club. Had been President, Region Chair person, District Chair person for sight
first, PRO & DC Directory, Governor’s Advisor twice. His yoman service was recognized
by lions and was awarded International
President Leadership medal, International
President’s Appreciation certificate 6 times, multiple awards 6 times and several
district awards Rotary International honored him with “ For the Sake of Honor Award”
The JC International honored him with “Outstanding Senior Citizen Award” The IMA
recognized him with “Best Eye Surgeon Award” The Government recognized him with
appreciation certificates from District Collectors & is honored by designating
him in various positions like Member District Hospital Committee, Member Judge TNEB
consumer redressel forum etc. His spouse MJF Ln. Saroja Sankaran got married in
1966 also joined lionism in 1978 and is actively involved in lionism. Held posts
as Charter President, ZC, RC, DC leadership & joint cabinet secretary and editor
District journal “Harmony”. She is also designated with various postings by District
collectors. Blessed with two daughters both married to medical specialists and one
son married to dental surgeon. Son is looking after the hospital management &
business.
